Chewing gum is not capable of replacing a brush and is unlikely to provide full dental care, so dentists recommend using it only for one-time oral hygiene, preferably after a meal.
When chewing gum on an empty stomach, this process can contribute to the appearance of gastritis and, if there is this disease, then an exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease. By chewing gum only after a meal, you solve the problem of cleaning your teeth, and also contributes to the additional secretion of gastric juice, which is necessary for the digestion of food.
You should be aware that chewing gum for maintaining oral hygiene more than 5 times a day is very harmful. It is permissible to chew one serving of gum for no longer than 15 minutes. First, the aroma, flavor and refreshing components of the product lose their sharpness in just 10 minutes of intense chewing. Secondly, prolonged, and even more frequent, chewing adversely affects the temporomandibular joint.
Chewing gum does not eliminate the need for proper dental care - you still have to brush your teeth twice a day.
