The word "bustier" has French roots, it comes from bust, which means "chest". Until recently, this wardrobe item was not familiar to Russian women, but now it is widely represented in lingerie stores and is very popular.

What is a bustier

The bustier is an ordinary bra with a wide yoke with vertical underwires sewn into it. Since the width of the auxiliary lower part sometimes exceeds 10-15 cm, and sometimes reaches the waist line, this piece of lingerie resembles a tight-fitting top. Initially, the bustier was sewn from cotton fabric and worn over a rigid corset in order to protect the material from which the dress is made from abrasion at the points of contact with hard bones. Now it performs an independent function, namely, it supports the breast. Often the bustier does not have straps, but at the same time, it tightly covers a rather large surface of the body and does not slide down. This is why this kind of bra is often worn under a dress with a bare back or with a deep neckline.

What is the difference between a bustier and a corset

It is not immediately clear what the difference is between a corset and a bustier. In fact, the first was invented in order to change, "transform" the female silhouette. Surprisingly, lush or even rounded breasts were far from always in vogue, they were mercilessly pulled in the Middle Ages, when chastity was actively promoted by the church. It was only later that corsets began to be used to improve the waistline.

The bustier in its modern form does not model the silhouette, but only due to the rigid vertical bones allows the bra cups not to "crawl" downward under the influence of gravity, that is, it maintains the shape of the breast. That is why this type of bra is very popular among women who have recently finished breastfeeding and among women with age-related changes in the décolleté area. To create a seductive push up effect, the cups are made of bulky material, for example, the same foam rubber.

Wardrobe items with bustier

It is no wonder that such functional and rather comfortable lingerie has become widely used by designers to create sexy and seductive outfits. That is why the term "bustier dress" even appeared. This wardrobe item has nothing to do with underwear, a bra is not even required in this case. The bustier dress is a strapless, sleeveless dress that is close to the body, while the shape at the top of it is fixed thanks to the sewn bones. It is very suitable for parties and outings. There are also bustier tops that are used as an independent wardrobe item. They add sexuality and charm to their owner.
