Convenient and inconspicuous, a hidden zipper is usually sewn into the middle seam of the back of a dress. In some models, it is located in the left side seam of the product, but in this case it should be borne in mind that the side line of a dress made of thin fabric can bulge and deform due to the fact that a stiffer zipper is sewn into a curly seam. Sewing a hidden "zipper" into a dress differs from the usual one in that a secret fastener is sewn into the open seam of the product. When sewn in correctly, the invisible zipper is not visible in the seam.

It is necessary

  • - hidden zipper;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - special foot for attaching a blind fastener.

Instructions

Step 1

Overlock the cuts of the middle seam of the two halves of the back of the dress on an overlock or process them with a bias tape. The width of the middle seam allowances should be 1.5 cm.

Step 2

Fold the middle seam allowances to the wrong side and press them with your finger so that the fold line, which is also the middle line of the back, becomes visible, but do not iron the fabric for this purpose. A too clear fold line will prevent you from carefully stitching the zipper.

Step 3

Open the zipper to the end and place it with the right side to the middle seam allowances on the back of the dress. Align the scalloped edges of the invisible zipper with the marked lines for the middle of the back of the garment on both back pieces. Align the upper ends of the zipper with the cut line of the dress neckline.

Step 4

Baste the zipper to the middle seam allowance, tacking it close to the teeth. Start basting from top to bottom - first one side of the fastener, and then the other, also starting at the top.

Step 5

Attach the zipper foot to the sewing machine. This foot has a groove at the bottom, into which the serrated "snake" of the fastener enters and thus allows it to be stitched to the dress evenly. Bend the zipper teeth outward with your index finger.

Step 6

Between the fabric of the zipper and the plastic teeth, first sew a stitch on the left side of the hidden zipper. Guide the stitch from above, from the edge of the neckline, until the foot rests against the zipper. Machine bartacking should not be done - tie the ends of the threads at the end of the stitching into two strong knots. Do the same with the right half of the clasp.

Step 7

Close the hidden zipper completely with the lock. Baste the middle seam of the back of the dress below the stitching seams. At the same time, bend the lower end of the zipper tape so that it does not get in the way of the seam.

Step 8

Change the machine foot for a different one - for attaching a regular "zipper", which presses it on only one side. Sew the middle back seam by starting the seam just above the end of the zipper seam and 1 mm to the left of it. When sewing, hold the bottom end of the zipper in the folded back position so that the foot can come as close as possible to the middle seam line.

Step 9

Hand bartack the top end of the middle seam. Iron the allowances.
