In perfumery, there is a classification of perfumes by the type of aroma. Among them, fougere smells take their place of honor. Most often, aromatic fragrances are produced for men or in the unisex category.

What are aromatic fragrances
Fougère Royale, released in 1882 by the French brand Houbigant, gave life to fougere fragrances. Fougère in Russian means "fern". In fact, fougere-type perfumes do not smell like fern, but rather a fresh woody-herbal scent.
The fragrances of this group are reminiscent of the fresh smells of a morning meadow covered with dew, the air during a summer thunderstorm, or the scents of a forest after a rain.
The base of the classic fougere scent is a top note of lavender, the base notes are coumarin and oakmoss. Coumarin has the smell of freshly cut hay and brings a bittersweet note to the perfume composition.
Most often, coumarin is extracted from tonka beans (fruits of trees of the genus Dipteryx). In addition, coumarin is found in sweet clover, gerbera, chamomile, yarrow, bison.
Also, the composition of fougere perfumes can include a variety of citrus, green, herbal, floral and animalic notes. Depending on which components prevail in the aromas of this group, fougere aromas are subdivided into fougere green, fougere fruit, fougere watery and fougere spicy odors.
Popular aromatic fragrances
Chanel Allure Homme is one of the classic men's fragrances belonging to the family of fougere fragrances. It was created by the famous perfumer Jacques Polge in 1999. The fragrance is represented by four "facets": spicy, woody, fresh and fougere. Allure Homme begins with light citrus notes and continues into a warm heart of spices and woods. Admirers of this perfume are men of different ages - from young boys to elderly gentlemen.
Despite the fact that most of the fougere fragrances are intended for a strong half of humanity, women can also enjoy rare examples of fougere perfume. The women's fougere composition Elixir des Merveilles by Hermes conquers with its sweet-resinous sound. The main constituents of the scent are tonka beans, Siamese resin, patchouli, Peruvian balsam, oakmoss and incense. Vanilla sugar and caramel add a light sweetness. A noticeable orange note complements the overall bouquet.
CK Be is the first unisex perfume with a fougere note from Calvin Klein. It is a delicate, sensual scent with main notes of bergamot, mandarin, juniper berries, mint, magnolia, sandalwood, peach and tonka bean.
It is better to use fougere aromas in summer, and they are suitable for any time of the day. On women, such a perfume is revealed quite boldly and piquantly, especially in cases when it was originally a male scent.
