Step 1

First of all, try to remove the dirt with another piece of fresh gum. As long as the gum is still fresh, cleaning the fabric in this manner should be a breeze. This method is suitable for small fresh dirt.

Step 2

If the stain is old or too much absorbed into the fabric, try freezing the stained item in the freezer or outside (if it's a frosty winter outside). Chewing gum, like any other rubber, will lose its elasticity in the cold and it can be wiped off like any other pollution. Small dirt can be frozen with an ice cube.

Step 3

If the item is too large to fit in the refrigerator, or if there are other obstacles to cold treating it, you can remove the gum using a high heat. Pour boiling water over the dirt and wipe it off with an old toothbrush or rag. You can also iron the gum stain off. To do this, cover the dirt with a piece of cloth or tissue. Change the cloth as often as possible when cleaning. The stain should go away without a trace.

Step 4

If there is currently no way to remove the dirt with the help of temperature, try removing the chewing gum from the fabric using solvents. Acetone-free nail polish remover is the safest for fabrics. Usually, the chewing gum is rubbed off without any problems after using it.

Step 5

Toluene is somewhat more dangerous for the fabric, but also more effective. Before using it, apply a few drops of toluene to an inconspicuous part of the fabric. If, after 10-15 minutes, the fabric has not been damaged, toluene can be used for cleaning.

Step 6

In extreme cases, it is permissible to use ordinary acetone, but try not to rub the stain, otherwise it will smear over the surface of the fabric.

Step 7

If these methods did not help you, then only dry cleaning of the thing can cope with such persistent chewing gum.
