With the onset of the first hot days, city beaches are covered with half-naked bodies, eager to acquire a bronze tan. However, the sun alone is not enough to achieve a beautiful shade.

Sunburn is the body's defensive response to ultraviolet radiation. The melanin accumulated by the skin acts as a carapace, which prevents the penetration of rays deep into the skin. As a result of the production of this substance, the skin becomes darker.

It has been proven that naturally dark people tan better and faster than people with fair skin. However, in the course of research and experimentation, other factors have been identified that affect the quality of tanning.

How to improve the quality of your tan

The effectiveness of tanning directly depends on the degree of melanin production. Eat foods rich in beta-carotene (a melanin activator) to help your skin acquire the desired tone faster. This pigment is found in carrots, rose hips, blueberries, and most orange and red fruits and vegetables. In order for beta-carotene to be better absorbed by the body, it must be consumed in combination with fats: sour cream, yogurt, olive oil. Keep in mind that the body spends a lot of energy on synthesizing melanin. Make your daily menu so that it contains at least 1200 kcal.

The color of the tan depends on where it was obtained. For chocolate shades, go as close to the equator as possible, such as Africa. Bronze can be obtained in Turkey, Egypt, as well as in the Black or Azov Sea. A golden tan is obtained on the beaches of the Mediterranean.

Ultraviolet radiation reaches its maximum during the day from 11 am to 4 pm. During this time, the rate of tanning increases, but at the same time there is a risk of getting burned. When going to the beach for lunch, be sure to use special protective creams and lotions. Sunburn in the morning or evening hours appears more slowly, but lays down smoother.

The sea always lights up better than the city beach. The secret is that salt water acts as a catalyst. The way out of their situation is very simple. If you are sunbathing by a pond or lake, bring a bottle of salted water and tissues with you. Wash and wipe yourself with this solution as often as possible, and a tan will not keep you waiting.

Tanning oils can be found in the assortment of many cosmetic brands. Such funds will not only speed up the process, but also protect the skin from burns. But it is better to refuse decorative cosmetics and perfumery. Foundation and powder will clog pores that have widened from the heat, and perfume can provoke age spots.

How to prolong the life of your tan

Long exposure to the sun leads to dehydration: the skin becomes dry, peeling appears, which takes away the resulting tan. To avoid this, drink at least 2 liters of water and moisturize your skin daily with lotions, milk and body creams.

Avoid any kind of whitening or beauty products. Use tea and coffee not only internally. You can make a natural body scrub from coffee pomace, which will make the skin smooth and maintain a dark tone, and washing your face with strong tea will not only keep your tan, but also narrow the pores.

Don't forget about beta-carotene-rich foods. A solarium can also prolong the life of a tan. One session per week is enough for this.
