Pyruvic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to organic keto acids. A substance with a slight vinegar odor in its natural form can be found in honey and citrus fruits. Pyruvic acid has revitalizing and exfoliating properties, which is why it is often used for superficial or mid-level skin exfoliation.

Indications and contraindications
Pyruvic peeling (also called "green") is carried out using a substance obtained from grape acid. It is found in the human body and acts very gently. The procedure is ideal for aging skin with noticeable wrinkles, primary pigment spots, dullness and lack of firmness. Superficial or deep peeling is possible, the choice depends on the condition of the face and individual recommendations. The popularity of the procedure is high, pyruvic formulations managed to outshine even the famous carbon peeling.
When done correctly, the procedure is capable of:
- remove the stratum corneum, make it more susceptible to further care;
- smooth out small mimic wrinkles, slightly tighten enlarged pores;
- lighten fabrics, make complexion more even;
- remove excess fat.
In the process of acid treatment, dead skin cells are removed, the pores open, ensuring normal air exchange and the removal of sebum. At the same time, the epidermis intensively absorbs moisture, becomes more elastic and taut. The face is younger and looks well-groomed. An important role of acid procedures is to accelerate tissue renewal and stimulate the formation of new collagen fibers.
Peeling is recommended at the first signs of aging and various cosmetic defects. However, it also has contraindications. Acid treatment is not recommended for:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- asthma;
- diabetes;
- oncological and autoimmune pathologies;
- damage to the skin;
- infectious diseases of any nature.
Peelings should also not be carried out when the temperature rises, exacerbations of chronic diseases and poor health.
How is the procedure
Most often, not only pyruvic, but also lactic acid is included in the peeling mixture. This combination is more effective. The proportions depend on the condition of the skin. For rejuvenation and lightening, preparations are taken in equal proportions, an increase in the percentage of pyruvic acid is used to solve pronounced age-related problems: removal of wrinkles, tightening, deep moisturizing.
When the composition is applied to the skin, the molecules of the agent come into contact with the upper layer of the epidermis, attracting and dissolving dead cells. Then the acids penetrate deeper, affecting the dermis. The procedure lasts at least 15 minutes, a more precise time is prescribed by a cosmetologist.
After the end of the peeling, the composition is washed off with neutralizing liquids. During the recovery period, the face is treated with disinfectants and moisturizers. Good sun protection is a must.
Pyruvic peeling is carried out in courses. Surface application is repeated up to 7 times, with a break between sessions - 7-10 days. Medium and intense peels are done three times with an interval of 28 days.
