What do you need to know about your lashes?

On the upper eyelid, on average, 150-200 eyelashes, and on the lower eyelid about 50-150. Their average length is 8-12 mm on the upper eyelid and 6-8 mm on the lower. However, it turns out that proper nutrition of hair can help it grow more efficiently, making it longer and thicker.

The life cycle of eyelashes is 3 to 4 months. During this time, 3 phases follow each other:

  • The first phase of intensive growth. It lasts 2 to 3 weeks. During this time, eyelashes grow very intensively and gain volume.
  • The next phase is a temporary period during which the hair follicles gradually contract.
  • At the last stage, hairs fall out.

After going through the entire cycle, the hair follicles resume their work, and the eyelashes grow back. Then the whole cycle starts over. Each time, about 70% of eyelashes are in the phase of intensive growth, so their loss does not cause unsightly spots and is almost imperceptible. If your eyelashes are nourished and cared for at this stage, the growth period will be lengthened, so they will grow longer, stronger and thicker.

Long eyelashes - what can harm them?

Eyelash condition worsens with age. In older people, you may notice that they are more fragile and prone to breakage. However, people often unknowingly contribute to the deterioration of their shape. Frequent use of extensions, as well as poorly performed makeup removal, significantly weaken their condition. What's more, their quality can also be negatively affected by stress, poor diet and even a history of medical conditions such as conjunctivitis, thyroid gland or cancer, which are treated with chemotherapy.

Even if you use mascara for too long, lashes can be damaged. Mascara that has been open for a long time carries the risk of eye contamination from bacteria growing on the brush. The longer it is used, the greater the number of pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, it should be used for a maximum of 6 months.

How to care for eyelashes?

Removing eye make-up is a basic care that should not be forgotten. Falling asleep with mascara weakens them. Therefore, you should not skip this lesson, and you should do it correctly. It is forbidden to rub your eyes strongly. To do this, first moisten a cotton pad with a makeup remover, then apply it to one eye and wait until the cosmetic dissolves.

Eyelash conditioners

A great way to get long lashes is to use appropriate conditioners. Many products of this type can be found in pharmacies that nourish and stimulate the hair to grow intensively.

The most common ingredients in conditioners are:

  • vitamin B12 and biotin, which prevent hair loss,
  • hyaluronic acid, which provides the hair with the necessary level of moisture,
  • glycoproteins that stimulate the function of hair follicles.

Preparations for eyelashes should also contain panthenol, an ingredient that renews and complements the structure of the eyelashes, thereby increasing their elasticity, and nanopeptides, which prolong the first phase of eyelash life, that is, the growth phase. Plant extracts also help in their care, regeneration and hydration.
