Acne and seborrhea skin care cosmetics have many different tasks that need to be done at the same time. Therefore, it most often contains complexes of substances that not only matte or reduce seborrhea, but also moisturize, restore and strengthen the skin.

Most effective and commonly used ingredients:

  • Lactic acid (alpha hydroxypropionic acid). Exfoliates, disinfects and prevents bacteria growth.
  • Glycolic acid (hydroxyacetic acid). Has an exfoliating effect - inhibits the activity of enzymes that maintain the integrity of corneocytes, as a result of which the epidermis exfoliates.
  • Mandelic acid. In structure, it is similar to many antibiotics, has a strong antibacterial effect, gently exfoliates the epidermis and suppresses seborrhea.
  • Salicylic acid - belongs to the group of beta-hydroxy acids. It exfoliates, penetrates the sebum layer and deeper layers of the skin. Unblocks blocked sebaceous glands, unclogs pores, reduces acne, has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Benzoyl peroxide - exfoliates the epidermis, unclogs pores and reduces seborrhea, and inhibits the growth of bacteria.
  • Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A. They exfoliate the epidermis. Their effect depends on form and concentration. The most commonly used over-the-counter cosmetics are retinol palmitate, retinol and retinaldehyde, which are relatively mild. Prescription acne ointments contain more concentrated retinoids - tretinoin (retinoic acid), isotretinoin, tazarotene, adapalene. They are more effective, but they can dry out, exfoliate and irritate the skin, so during treatment, you should additionally use soothing and moisturizing cosmetics recommended by a dermatologist.
  • Sulfur. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, regulates the sebaceous glands, tightens pores and mattifies. Sulfur-rich amino acids are also added to anti-acne cosmetics.
  • Camphor. Anti-inflammatory agent, slightly exfoliates, suppresses seborrhea, regulates sebum secretion, narrows enlarged pores.
  • Kaolin is a clay with strong properties that absorb excess sebum. Has a bactericidal effect, cleanses and closes the pores of the skin.
  • Propolis - includes, among others, flavonoids, vitamins, organic acids, proteins, enzymes, amino acids. It has antiseptic properties, prevents excessive seborrhea and regenerates the skin.
  • Essential oils. - have antibacterial and antifungal properties, reduce skin inflammation and sebum secretion, prevent the formation of acne.

Cosmetics for acne and oily skin include, but are not limited to: rosemary, lemon, bergamot, tea tree, juniper, thyme and lavender oils.
