In accordance with the technology of shellac manicure, one of the main elements of the coating should be a primer. Is there such a great need for it or is it just a trick of marketers and manicurists who are filling their own worth.
What is a nail primer for?
The primer is a clear liquid that the master applies before applying the base. It serves as an adhesive base for the base coat, improving the adhesion of the gel polish and the nail plate. This effect is obtained due to the effect of dehydration, the bonder removes excess fluid, raises the scales of the nail plate. Its composition may vary. An acid-free primer is less harmful, but not as effective as an acid one.
Another useful property of the primer is the destruction of microbes and fungi that can multiply under the gel coating during a long wear period. Sometimes the manicure master also uses a bond before applying the primer - a pre-primer that disinfects the nail plate.
An acidic primer contains an acid that dries out the nail plate a lot. Due to this, the base coat is well fixed and lasts for a long time, with this technology, nail extension is made, especially if a longer length is needed. An acid-free primer has a more gentle effect, although it also has a disinfecting and drying effect.
What can replace the nail primer
In domestic use, there are no liquids that are identical in composition to the primer or have the same effect. A primer for eyelash extension has a similar effect, it also dries and degreases the surface.
For a regular manicure - gel polish, there is no need to use a primer. Provided that the owner of the nails has not taken a bath or washed dishes at least two hours before the procedure, the nail plate will be dry enough. It is only necessary to sand the surface of the nail a little with a file and degrease it with a liquid to remove the sticky layer.
When you can't do without a primer
Still, there are cases when it is difficult to make beautiful nails without a primer. For example, when building up with acrylic without additional dehydration, it is almost impossible to achieve good adhesion of materials. Also, prier is indispensable in case of a tendency to fungal formations and increased fat content of nails.
Another area of application of the primer is in the design of sliders. These are thin stickers that are cut to fit the shape of the nail and cover it completely when glued. Since they are initially flat, it is difficult to achieve a snug fit. If you wet them with a primer, after a couple of seconds, the stickers begin to stretch and shrink at the request of the master, and with the help of a brush they can be easily formed into the shape of the nail. The main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise the primer will simply dissolve the slider.
